“Hanahaki President”, 30” x 24”, acrylic on canvas
This painting of Trump is in a show called, Political Discord this month at Las Lagunas Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA. I kept seeing this image of the screaming angry president, puking up flowers and then I was turned on to something called hanahaki disease, which is a fictitious disease in MANGA caused by unrequited love. A flowering tree starts to grow inside the stomach of the victim, and they begin to cough up blossoms, eventually choking to death as the plant grows and grows inside of them. And the only cure? LOVE.
Did you know that Wikipedia has an entire page dedicated to fictitious diseases? Fascinating.
Contact me if you’re interested in this piece.
