Small Works Show at JAG Gallery

our home with a view

I have a piece in this show Small Works Show at Jag Gallery this month in Key West, Florida! It’s called “Our Home With a View”. It’s a mixed media collage made with paint and origami paper on panel. The origami paper is something I’d hung onto for many years and over several cross-country moves.

I had this amazing loft apartment with my boyfriend in Philly when I was 24 or 25. The loft had an incredible view of the city and of the Ben Franklin Bridge. We watched many sunsets from the roof and could see the whole city from our perfect perch. It was the coolest space in the best area but it didn’t have many walls or separated areas (or great insulation or heating for that matter) so I decided I’d make a room divider. I took this same gold origami paper and pasted it to thicker sheets of paper and suspended it from wires from the ceiling. I was an ESL tutor for Jean, a woman from Taiwan and she would take me on tours of Chinatown, showing me all the good food to eat, good shops and bakeries to go to. I bought the paper on one of our excursions together. It was a special time and I though this piece is small, it’s pretty infused with memories of that magical period of time.

I think JAG Gallery did a great job picking out the pieces for the show. Here are some pictures below from their website. You can see my piece in the second column from the left! It’s 4” x 4”, so it’s a little one and I love the cluster of artwork they chose to hang it with.
